Now apply for passport from e-Seva Centres

In a bid to help passport applicants from rural areas, the Ministry of External Affairs and the State government have proposed to utilise e-Seva Centres in all taluks for online registration of applications from September 21.

“This will help passport applicants from rural or remote areas to register their applications online. They can come to the e-Seva Centres where officials will assist them by charging a nominal fee,” Regional Passport Officer K. Balamurugan said.

Applicants could register, make payment online and fix an appointment for submission of applications at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

Police verification

The time taken for issuing passports to applicants in the State is likely to come down by five days, as the Ministry of External Affairs is trying to make a logistical arrangement with the State government over police verification.

“The State government has in-principle agreed to take printouts of personal particulars forms (PPFs) of applicants from rural areas for police verification. Once the arrangement becomes functional, the time taken for sending the PPFs to respective Superintendent of Police offices can be avoided,” Mr. Balamurugan said.
